(Economic)History classes

I often read whether it wouldn't be necessary for schools to teach a subject in economics, because whether we like it or not, economics is something that is going to govern our adult lives. Certainly it is a proposal that might seem useful, seeing as it is raised, but it is no less true that many times those same people who raise that option are the same ones who bet on a reduction of humanities subjects in the school curricula.

The economy, without the historical framework, is nothing. For that reason, what needs to be rethought is not so much the possibility of teaching economics, but that it is a real part of the subject of history. More than an amalgamation of dates that sooner or later students will end up forgetting, economics is something so important in history that it should be a fundamental part when teaching the subject, at least thanks to that I was able to understand the reason for many wars, movements and historical events that occurred, because ideals are important, but economics has moved the world, always.

That's why I like to keep up to date with the current economic situation (in spanish: actualidad económica), it's a way of knowing the current events of our time, and even if you know the history, you can play to see similarities with previous behaviors and foresee what may happen. Many people may think that reading business news (noticias sobre negocios) or news about current markets (actualidad de mercados) can be a waste of time for those of us who are not great entrepreneurs and do not have, in principle, interests in the upper echelons of the financial and business elite. However, I think it is a mistake. This news ends up affecting all of us, and trying to understand it is to understand the world in which we live.

Just because we are not the CEO of a large multinational, we do not have to be satisfied with reading the social chronicle (crónica social) and consumer news (noticias sobre consumo). We cannot and should not be relegated to the role of mere consumers, but only by being informed can we become an active part of a world that is changing rapidly. It is not good to resign oneself and think that we cannot do anything with the little piece of history that we have lived through. Having the right information, and after analyzing it, we can act according to our ethics, applying what we have learned: only in this way things will change.

Not with complaints through social networks, but with the release of insults on the desktop or at the bar. Only by being responsible for our consumption habits, with a healthy lifestyle (estilo de vida saludable), focused on what we believe in and want to achieve, can we change our environment day by day. Every act of consumption is a political act, and is much more effective than voting every 4 years. With this, history is created, although the date will never be reflected in any book.

Of course this is not easy, and it requires involvement and commitment on our part. The advantage is that the latest technology (últimas novedades tecnológicas) makes it possible to contact people who think the same way we do, and also helps us to access the information necessary to make the right decisions. Until recently it was the television news (noticias de televisión) that guided our lives, and that is not always the best, it has been proven.

The news (noticias de actualidad) has often been diluted by scandals that cover up what is truly important, distracting attention from what could actually be creating structural changes that influence people's lives. For that reason it is time to recognize that no one is going to give us the work done. The news is there, and so is infoxication (news intoxication). It is interesting to see the current news reports (reportajes de actualidad), but without a historical perspective that explains the context and origin of what happened, it is difficult to understand everything they explain. So let's not allow history to be stolen from us, since it is the basis on which we can build the present and the future we want with the tools we have, and which today are many. Let's use them.
