We decided to present our idea of the classification of the F1 drivers referring to what we think is the most qualitative study taking as a base and pillar all the current information of the motor world. In fact, it established a hierarchy of the best drivers in the history of F1, taking into account the level of the team and the equipment in each moment.

1. Juan Manuel Fangio - 5 titles and 24 victories
It is a reference in the history of Formula 1 of the 20th century.
This Argentine driver impressed with his attitude at the wheel, his speed and his titles that have left their mark in our language: "Driving like a Fangio" has become a common expression.
Juan Manuel Fangio is the only driver who has converted more than half of his participations in the top positions. He has 29 of the best times of the 51 Grands Prix cars in which he competed.
In 1936, at the age of 25, he participated in his first race at the wheel of a Ford A.
From 1939 to 1942, he decided to abandon circuit racing to embark on road races, which were very popular in Argentina.
In 1940, he won his first title and his first victory, the "Gran Premio del Norte" and also the title of Argentinean Road Champion.
Juan Manuel Fangio took his first steps in Europe in 1949 with the Automobile Club Argentina, which was a real shock team. Driving the Maserati 4CLT, Fangio was successful and won an official steering wheel for the Alfa Romeo team at the end of the year and participated in the first Formula 1 championship.
He won his first F1 world title in 1951 after the Spanish Grand Prix.
He was later crowned 4 times F1 world champion in 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957.
It was in 1958, at the age of 47, that he decided to gradually retire from high level and then he would participate in Argentina and Europe in historic car shows.
He died in 1995 after a heart attack, Argentina then decreed 3 days of national mourning.
2. Alain Prost - 4 titles and 51 victories
Alain Prost is undoubtedly the best French F1 driver, quadruple world champion, but also one of the best of all time, just steps away from Juan Manuel Fangio.
He made his debut in karting in 1973, where he was crowned Junior and European Champion and in 1974, Senior French Champion. After two failures in the world championship, he took his first steps in a single-seater in 1975.
It was in 1980 that he competed in his first Grand Prix in Argentina with an average season in McLaren. A year later with the Renault team, he won the first of his 51 Grand Prixs.
In 1984, the title of world champion escaped him by 0.5 points of difference, but thanks to his perseverance he was crowned the following year and will repeat it in 1986, 1989 and 1993.
Throughout his career, Alain Prost went through 4 teams: McLaren, Renault, Ferrari and Williams.
It is in 1993, with a fourth championship title that he decides to retire, which calms his tense relations with Senna.
From 1995 to 1996, he was a consultant for McLaren and a consultant for TF1.
Then he joined the e.dams team, the Renault Sport group, in the FIA Formula E championship and now he is a special advisor to the Renault F1 team.
3. Fernando Alonso - 2 titles and 32 victories
Fernando Alonso Diaz, third on our podium, is the best of his generation. He became the first F1 world champion in his country, but also the youngest driver in history to win the world championship title in 2005.
Like most drivers, Fernando Alonso made his debut at an early age in karting, thanks to his father, a passionate motorist. He won the Spanish karting championship four times in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. He also won the Junior World Cup in 1996 and the Inter-A Championship in Spain and Italy in 1997.
It was in 1999 that he started the single-seater in the Formula Nissan championship in the stable of the former Spanish Formula 1 driver Adrián Campos. In his first season he won the title, this victory allowed him a first test in Formula 1 at the wheel of a Minardi.
In 2001, he joined the Minardi team in Formula 1 and was the third youngest driver in history to start in F1. His first race was the Australian Grand Prix and he proved his potential throughout the year.
In 2003, Fernando Alonso became a regular at Renault. It was with this team that he won the title of F1 World Champion in 2005 and 2006 for two consecutive years.
He was part of the McLaren team in 2007, a turbulent season that does not resemble the one he signed up for in 2005. The Anglo-German team had a very average 2006 season without a win, which had not happened in 10 years.
He signs his return to Renault for two seasons (2008-2009), but he won't sign a big win and will even finish ninth overall in 2009, his worst place since 2001.
After several months of rumors, the Ferrari stable formalizes the arrival of Fernando Alonso for a period of 3 years.
During this period, he was 3 times vice world champion and in 2013 he became the driver with the most points in the league (1571 points), ahead of Michael Schumacher (1566 points).
2015-2016: again in McLaren, stable that he had left after only one season. He will finish 10th in the championship with 54 points in 2016.
In 2017, still with Team McLaren, the double world champion decides to skip the Monaco Grand Prix to compete in the Indianapolis 500. All this to win the triple crown. He abandoned the engine failure 21 laps from the end.
Last October, his team announced that Fernando Alonso had signed up for the 2018 season and the following seasons without specifying the number. And he announced his arrival back in the category in 2020 to start with Renault again in 2021
4. Jim Clark - 2 titles and 25 wins
Jim Clark, a Scottish racing driver, had a meteoric career in racing, but was stopped by an accident that cost him his life in 1968, during a Formula 2 race at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany.
He is one of the most outstanding drivers of his generation! Nicknamed "the flying Scotsman", Jim Clark is more than just a F1 driver. He has also raced and won in a multitude of disciplines: Hill Climb, Junior Formula, Formula 2, Indianapolis, Tourism ...
He took his first steps in motor racing with local races and demonstrations. During one of these races, he met Colin Chapman, very impressed by his talent.
He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 under the direction of Colin, and finished second in his category. He returned there with the Aston Martin team in 1960 and 1961.
5. Ayrton Senna - 3 titles and 41 victories
Ayrton Senna is a Brazilian racing driver and a true idol in his country, where his status has surpassed that of a simple sports champion. He made his debut as a teenager in karting, was South American karting champion in 1977 and then world champion in 1978 and 1979.
In 1985, he joined Team Lotus and confirmed his talent in the first Grand Prix by winning the race in the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Ayrton Senna's realization will be in 1988 within the McLaren team, an arrival that marks the beginning of his well-known rivalry with the French driver Alain Prost, his new teammate. With 13 poles, he was crowned F1 World Champion for the first time.
A tragic end awaits him in 1994 ... Senna joined the British team at the end of 1993. Presented as the favourite of this 1994 championship, Michael Schumacher leaves him few chances to win a race. The third grand prix of this season is tragic, with the death of Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger. Deeply saddened by this event, Senna will confide in him that he has a bad feeling and does not want to race the next day. The race will finally take place. In the seventh race, he lost control of his car and hit a concrete wall at full speed causing his death.
